Pune: When the Olympics are around, controversy can never be far from Indian tennis.
Even when the player hasn’t entered the event.
On Monday, Rohan Bopanna accused the Association of Indian Tennis (Aita) who was misleading “the players, governments, media and everyone” by saying that he and Sumit Nagal have a “good opportunity” to make the Olympics cut not the original nomination of Bopanna-Divij Sharan , “Itf has never received an entry for Sumit Nagal & itself.
Itff is clear that no changes are permitted after nominated deadlines (June 22) except injury / disease.
Aita has misled the players, governments, media and others by saying we still have Opportunity, “Bopanna wrote.
Speaking to Toi, Bopanna explained: “So Sumit entered, Mr.
Dhupar (Honorary Secretary Aita Anil Dhupar) wrote to me saying ‘We have attracted’ our nomination.” But unless there is an injury to one of us, the nomination cannot be changed.
In fact, itf wrote back to me yesterday said ‘we cannot change the nomination’.
“Every change should be done before June 16, deadlines to change nominations.” Tweets produce buzz with used and stars currently comment or retweet, add fuel to the fire.
Aita is not amused.
“His statement is the least desirable,” said Dhupar.
“Before the Sumit entered, they (Bopanna and Sharan) did not have the opportunity to enter.
We write to ITF who ask to draw Divij and, if the rules allow, change the nomination.” ITF wrote again said it was impossible.
Only that, what’s wrong we do? “With DiVi (as a partner), he’s fifth.
With Sumit, he’s third out.
Don’t we help him try to take him two places closer?” We try to push the case.
He does not qualify with the ranking.
“He didn’t know what I wrote to ITF.
He must get the fact before (posting).”
