Guwahati: Minister Assam Parimal Suklabaidya, who was sent to a tense barrack valley to bring back normal along the border of Mizoram, on Sunday said no encroachment in the Assam region by Mizoram since the BJP-led government took control of power in 2016.
“Disputes The border with Mizoram has been happening since 1982 after demarcation of clear boundaries and the current government has taken problems with the central government for a durable solution from annoying border problems.
” In what can be called contrary to the Suklabaidya statement, Chairman of Himanta Minister Buswa Sarma recently told the State Assembly that Cachar, Karimanj and Hailakandi – the three districts – faced encroachment or aggression by people from Mizoram.
However, the Cachar district has recorded the highest, 25 incidents since 2016.
Suklabaidya, who is also the Minister of Guardian for the Hailakandi District in Barak Valley, held a meeting with the district administration regarding border related problems related to Assam-Mizoram Inter-Budget on Sunday.
Even when he told the media that the Mizoram government had assured that they would institutionalize the investigation of violence in Cachar District on July 26 which led to the murder of six Assam police personnel and injured many people, Suklabaidya said that the Government of Assam would also be in his part of doing everything possible , including approaching the Supreme Court for justice.
Assam shared the border between countries 164.6 km with Mizoram.
This border was distributed by three South Assam Regency – Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj – and three Mizoram Regency – Kolastic, Mamit and Aizawl.
After the incident of protest and economic blockade in Cachar and in Hailakandi after the border of the battle, Suklabaidya on Sunday discussed the gamut related border problems, including the need to maintain the flow of essential commodities and non-esteemed medicine.
Mizoram has been hit with a lack of inventory after the economic blockade is forced by Assam people who live close to the border in Hailakandi and Cachar Regency.
In the instructions of the Chair of the Minister of Sarma, Suklabaidya said he, together with the Ashok Singhal Cabinet Minister, held a useful meeting with the administration of the Cachar District and other stakeholders in Lilapur on Saturday night which ultimately led to the withdrawal of the economic blockade of local people since the border flare-up July 26.
Suklabaidya has requested civil administration and police to take all possible steps to instill trust among people that “the government stands with them through thick and thin and their safety and security will be ascertained”.
He also asked the administration to be alert to thwart the evil design “certain forces” at work and to create a pleasant atmosphere for peace and tranquility to win on the border.
The minister urged representatives of political parties participating in the meeting to expand the support and cooperation to the government in bringing back to normal along the border between countries and in ensuring the flow of important items to humanitarian land in Mizoram.
After the meeting, Suklabaidya said the surface movement of the essential commodity will begin with the Hailakandi district which borders Mizoram from Sunday and that transportation via the train will begin after the damaged track is repaired.
After border violence, criminals damaged the railway line which was almost 1 km near the Mahammadpur train station in Hailakandi.
“The movement of goods will begin today, except for six gas tankers with safety reasons,” he added.
