LONDON: Finnish Driver Valtteri Bottas will leave Mercedes and Race for Alfa Romeo in a multi-year agreement from 2022, said the Swiss One Formula One team in a statement on Monday.
This step cleared the road for George Russell to leave Williams and take his place along the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton in the All-British line-up.
There is no word directly from Mercedes.
“The new chapter in my racing career is opened,” said Bottas, the winner of the Grand Prix nine times, which will replace the 2007 pension and world champion Kimi Raikkonen.
“I enjoy the opportunity to help lead the advanced team to the grid, especially with new regulations in 2022 giving a team of opportunity to leap in performance.” I thank you for the trust of the team that I have and I can’t wait to pay for their faith: I am the same as the result for results and, when the time comes, to win.
“Bottas, 32, joined Mercedes from Williams in 2017 after retiring suddenly 2016 world champion Nico Rosberg and he said that he was proud of what he had won with Hamilton.
Mercedes has won the Seven Driver Championship and the last team of team players.” Valtteria has become an integral part of the team that rewrites historical books and he has four world constructor titles for his name: He is the right driver to help Alfa Romeo Racing make a step forward ahead of the grid, “he said.” I really look forward to seeing it putting his ability to work for the good of the team.
