Jajpur: The 15-year-old boy was held for allegedly raping a three-year-old girl in the Jajpur Odisha district, police said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in a village in the Sukinda police station on Tuesday night when the girl was alone in her house, they said.
The boy is the girl’s neighbor, they said.
The girl was alone while her mother chatted with a neighbor on the back of the house.
Taking advantage of this situation, he allegedly raped the girl, police said.
Hearing his shout, the mother ran inside the house and found the girl crying, they said.
The boy escaped but was arrested by the police a few hours later after the girl family filed a complaint, they said.
“We have registered a case below Section 376 (rape) IPC, other than other parts of the Pocso Law.
We arrested the defendant from his house,” said the inspector responsible for Siba Charan Behera.
The defendant was sent to a teenage house, police said.
In another incident, a 27-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly trying to rape a 21-year-old girl in a village in the Kuakhia police station area in the district, police said.
The incident occurred last Thursday when the woman came out to attend nature calls at night, they said.
The defendant was arrested from his in-laws’ place, police said.
He was sent to the detention of the tune when produced in court, they said.
