Boyd Rankin retires from international cricket

NEW DELHI: England and Ireland pacer Boyd Rankin, the only cricketer to have played two nations in all 3 formats, has recently announced his retirement from international cricket.

Rankin left his Ireland debut in 2003 and performed for the nation at a T20 from Afghanistan at Greater Noida at 2020.

The 36-year-old has also played with an Ashes Test for England about the 2013-14 tour apart from seven ODIs and 2 T20s.

He went to play Ireland when they obtained the Evaluation standing in 2017.

Overall, he played three Tests, including 75 ODIs and 50 T20s.

“To retire in international cricket is almost always a difficult call, but I still believe now is the perfect time to step off,” he explained in an announcement.

“I’ve set my heart and soul to playing cricket professionally since 2003 and have enjoyed every second of it.

“I never thought I’d play with Ireland as far as I did and also to traveling the world playing numerous World Cups and then pull the literary jersey is still something I won’t ever forget”
Rankin is one of the 15 players that have played for 2 nations.

“To possess a lengthy career in County cricket particularly through my 11-year stint using Warwickshire at which people won the County Championship, 50-over contest twice and also the T20 Blast in 2014 was quite unique and something I am quite thankful for,” he explained.

“I constantly thought to be the best player I can be to perform at the maximum level possible, therefore to create my Test debut for England during a period when Ireland was not a Test-playing country was a really proud moment.

I’ll miss all of the guys I played together with the many and appreciating the wins we needed across the way,” he further added.
