Patna: Like other parts of the country, Bihar also witnessed an increase in the number of types of cancer cases, especially breast cancer in women.
According to health experts, women must be careful with different symptoms of breast cancer and over 40 years must be used for self-examination, routine checks and mammogram tests.
Senior Consultant (Oncosurgery) in Jai Prabha Medanta, Dr.
Niharika Roy, said 50% of breast cancer patients came to the second or third stage and 14% in the fourth stage.
“If screening at the initial stage, breast cancer can be cured,” said Dr.
Roy, added that the government must provide easy and wider filtering facilities for all individuals.
He said women over 40 years must go for mammograms, which are cost effective.
Dr.
Roy said that even though data for breast cancer was not available for Bihar, data throughout the country showed that breast cancer cases were detected in India every four minutes and a woman died every 30 minutes.
Dr.
Ridhu Kumar, Director and Consultant (Medical Oncology) at the Magadh Cancer Center, said many women suffer from symptomatic breast cancer.
He said women must regularly examine their breasts for all kinds of lumps or changes and go for mammograms.
“Women must maintain a healthy lifestyle and proper weight and engage in physical activities.
Breast cancer is directly related to being overweight.
In addition, drinking liquor is a risk factor.
Women must take a lot of fruit and vegetables.
Breastfeeding for a year or Longer shows the lower risk of breast cancer, “he added.
Dr.
Abhishek Anand, Hematology at the Narayan Cancer Center and HMRI Paras Hospital, said the shy of women and the lack of consciousness was also responsible for the increase in breast cancer cases.
“Covid pandemic which then worsens the problem,” he added.
Dr.
Anand said the lump or thickening of the breast tissue, changes in the size, shape or appearance of the newly reversed breast and nipples are some of the symptoms of breast cancer.
“There may be peeling or scaling of pigment areas around the nipple or breast skin.
If these symptoms are observed, one must visit a doctor even if the mammogram test has recently normal,” added Dr.
Anand.
