LONDON: The UK High Court has given US government permission to appeal the decision that Wikileaks Julian Assange cannot be sent to the United States to face allegations of espionage.
The Judicial Office said on Wednesday that the appeal had been given and this case would be registered for the hearing of the High Court.
There is no date set.
In January, a lower court judge rejected American demand to send Assange to the US to face accusations of spying on the publication of Wikileaks from the last secret military documents.
Vanessa Baraiters District Judge denied extradition with health reasons, said Assange would likely commit suicide if it was held under the condition of a hard US prison.
The judge ordered that Assange must remain in prison during each potential we filed an appeal, governing that Australian citizens “had incentives against Abscond” if he was released.
Assange, 50, was in London’s high security Belmarsh prison because he was arrested in April 2019 because of missing a bail seven years earlier during a separate legal battle.
Assange spent seven years hiding in the Ecuador London embassy, where he escaped in 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden to face allegations of rape and sexual violence.
Sweden dropped the investigation of sex crimes in November 2019 because so much time had passed.
A-prosecutor prosecutors have charged Assange at 17 espionage costs and one charge of computer abuse for the publication of WikiLeaks from thousands of military and diplomatic documents leaking.
The accusation brought a maximum sentence of 175 years in prison.
Assange’s fiance, Stella Moris, urged President Joe Biden’s president on Wednesday to bring down prosecution starting under his predecessor, Donald Trump.
“I pulled directly to the Biden government to do the right thing, even in this final stage,” Moris said, who had two young sons with Assange.
“This case should not be dragged out soon.
End this prosecution, protect a free speech and let Julian go home to his family.”
