LONDON: The British drug watchdog on Tuesday said that it had approved the Covid-19 modern vaccine for children aged 12 to 17 years, after previously giving a green light to Pfizer.
Medicines and supervisory bodies of health care products in a statement that the Jab is “safe and effective in this age group”.
But it adds it now going to the Joint Committee Government Advisory Agency of Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI) to recommend whether to start giving Jab.
England began the mass vaccination program in December last year and had to date almost 90 percent of all adults received the first dose.
More than three quarters (77 percent) have two doses – factors in the government raised all the restrictions on the remaining Coronavirus law in the UK on Monday.
Health officials said vaccination had contributed to the decline in hospital admission with more serious Covid cases, although the level of infection has increased.
Earlier this month, the government said it would offer JABS to all children aged 16 and 17 years but unlike other countries, postponed launching programs to younger children.
JCVI said only 12 to 15 years were considered vulnerable to receive a more careful vaccine than in the United States and the European Union.
They, as with older teenagers who qualified, were given a pfizer / bionech shot.
The government has set the target of the first dose of 16 and 17 years on August 23, to give them protection before the school’s start in England and Wales in September.
