Broken trees pose a threat to commuter

Coimbatore: The recent rain in the city has left many damaged roadside trees, pose a threat to passengers.
Residents urge the corporation to cut broken branches and cut trees on the threshold removed.
“The desert on the roadside has loosened the land thus weakening root.
Some trees are partially revoked.
We have submitted a petition at City Corporation a few days ago but there has been no response,” said S Krishnan, a resident of Ram Nagar.
A senior corporate official said they had begun to cut tree branches wherever it is necessary.
“But the authority to cut trees is given to the income department.
We have taken problems with income officials,” the official said.
However, activists and the associations of the welfare of the population asked administrators to remain sensitive to cutting down trees as a logging of immoral trees can affect the city’s green cover.
“There is no idea that the roadside trees are damaged because the rain needs to be removed to avoid accidents.
But at the same time, it should not open the way for unnecessary logging of trees,” said M Loganathan, the Federation Coordinator for sustainable development.
He added that administration must develop a comprehensive tree database in the city.
“On many occasions, the owner of commercial establishment cuts trees on the roadside illegally to ensure better visibility of their facilities.
Having a tree database will prevent the activity.” K Syed Kattuva from Marangurukku Maruvalu AmaiPPU said most of the city stretching Exotic like flowers, pelta forum trees, trees ‘albizia saman’ and ‘thoongu moonji maram’.
These trees are easily damaged during rain unlike native tree species.
Emphasizing the need to save the existing tree than planting new, Syed Kattuva said the government must involve experts who can advise on tree health conditions so that the tree can be saved by recovery instead of cutting it down.
