Bengaluru: The Chairperson of the BS Minister Yediyurapppa has written to his Kerala colleague, Pinarayi Vijayan, urged him to review moved which was intended to rename 11 villages in Manjeshwar and Kasaragod Talang, who had the name Kannada, to Malayalam.
On Monday, Chairman of the Border Development Authority Karnataka C Somashekar met Yediyurappa and told him about his development.
Names both on Kannada or Tulu or a mixture of both with some of them have centuries history.
Yediyurappa said the Kasaragod people – both Kannadiangan and Malayalis – have lived in harmony.
“It is not right to change the names of Kannada villages that have their own cultural and historical values,” he said Kannada and the Minister of Culture Arvind Limbavali, said that a large number of people speak in this net.
“The government should discuss this issue with residents before making unilateral decisions.
We must oppose the move to protect Kannada culture,” he said.
Former Chairman of the Minister of HD Kumaraswamy said: “This is the duty of Kerala and Karnataka to protect the traditional feelings of kannadigas who live there.”
