New Delhi: Bengal Bengal Barat Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Tuesday refused to accept Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award.
“I don’t know anything about this award.
Nobody tells me about it.
If they have decided to offer Padma Bhushan to me, I refuse to accept it,” said the news agency PTI quoted the veteran CPM leader.
This year the President has approved the 128 Padma Awards award.
“Buddhadeb Bhattacharya nominated for Padma Bhushan Award has refused to accept it.
The CPM policy has been consistent in a decrease in such awards from the country,” said the party on Twitter.
“Our work is for people not for awards.
Com EMS who previously offered awards had refused,” he added.
This list consists of 4 Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 107 Padma Shri Awards.
34 Recipients are women and this list also includes 10 people from the category of strangers / NRI / PIO / OCI and 13 post receivers.
Former Chairman of the Minist of Uttar Pradesh Kalyan Singh and Indian Defense Chief of India India Bipin Rawat who died in a helicopter accident was awarded Padma Vibhushan.
Cyrus Poonawalla from the Indian Serum Institute, which produces Covid-19 Covishield vaccines, and Krishna Ella and Suchitra Ella from Bharat Biotech, which produces the original Covaxin Covid Vaccine, given Padma Bhushan.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Google Sundar Pichai CEO, Chairman of the Group Natarajan Chandrasekkan was awarded Padma Bhushan.
Padma Awards – One of the highest civilian awards in the country, was found in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
‘Padma Vibhushan’ is given for exceptional and respectable services; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for honorable services from the high order and ‘padma shri’ for leading services in any field.
Awards are announced on the occasion of the Republican Day every year.
