Kolkata: Chorbagan Sarbojanin Durgotsav will provide 13 ‘ekchala’ durga idols for small-scale clubs and pujas organizations, which are in severe financial difficulties because of the Covid situation.
On Saturday, a member of the Puja Chorbagan Committee held a lottery to choose 10 pujas from 33 organizers who had submitted assistance.
In addition, he set aside the names of three Puja Committees – one organized by sex workers, others by all women and one third of Midnapore East – which will also be talented idols.
Each idol will cost around Rs 55,000.
It’s separate, the North Kolkata club will provide monetary assistance by Rs 10,000 to three more puja organizers.
Overall, Chorbagan will spend around Rs 7.5 lakh on efforts.
“Last year, many did not get sponsors and took loans to regulate the puja, hoping to make a good one this year.
But with a pandemic still raging, some committees are in trouble.
Many are not sure whether they can at all bear the basic costs for Puja This year.
Because we have planned to do auspicious puja durga this year, we decided to provide assistance to some in trouble, “said Chorbagan Sarbojanin Durgotsav General Secretary Jayanta Banerjee.
Idol is being made on the ground where Chorbagan Puja is held.

All 13 idols will be the 12-ft eexa.
“This initiative also helps craftsmen who do not get orders this year,” explained Samanta, who was a theme artist for Chorbagan.
Initially, 54 Puja Committees had collected 35 forms that apply for assistance.
