Islamabad: The suicide bomber blew himself in the Shia Mosque during Friday prayers in the northeastern city of Afghanistan, killing at least 100 worshipers and injuring around 150.
There was no claim directly on the responsibility for the attack but it took all Islamic superiority.
Country-khorasan (IS-K), who recently attacked the mosque in Kabul, killed several people.
Video recordings show terrible scenes with corpses surrounded by debris in the Gozar-Uched century mosque.
Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, confirmed the explosion and said there were victims.
However, he did not immediately give the dead, say the Taliban was still investigating.
“Today in the afternoon, in the Khanabad area of Bandar in the capital city of Kunduz, an explosion targets the Mosque of our Shiites and Martyrs and injured a number of our colleagues,” he tweeted.
Local security officials said more than 300 hundred people had attended Friday prayers when the attack took place.
There are contradictory reports about the number of victims.
Dost Mohammad Obaida, Deputy Chief of Police for Kunduz Province, said at least 100 people were killed and many more were injured in the attack.
“I convinced our Shia that the Taliban was ready to ensure their safety,” Obaida said, adding that the investigation was underway.
Previously, the authorities at the Kunduz Provincial Hospital said that 35 people died and more than 50 were injured were brought there, while health officials at the Médecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) Hospital in the city reported that 15 dead and 90 people were brought to their facilities .
MSF hospital workers said they were afraid that the death toll could rise.
If IS-K claims BLAST Friday, it will be the worst attack in a battered country after the group targets Kabul Airport in a devastating bombing in August.
Afghan Minority Shiite Muslim, which redeemed around 20 percent of the Afghan population, has been a victim of several of the country’s most cruel attacks.
Many of them are Hazara, ethnic groups that have been very persecuted in Afghanistan for decades.
Is-k has repeatedly targeted a minority of Afghanistan Shiites in the past, with suicide bombings attacking their mosques, sports clubs and schools.
Kunduz is the main transit point for economic and trade exchanges with Tajikistan.
The province saw a fierce battle when the Taliban fought back to power in August this year.
