Bullet removed from 140kg Malda Man at Kolkata Hospital

Kolkata: Doctor at the IPGMER (Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research) removes bullets from patients with a weight of 140kg.
The bullet lodged between the bladder and the patient’s rectum.
Surgery is done laparoscopically since open operation, the doctor said, could be at risk for obesity.
Nepal Chowdhury (53), a resident of Malda, recovering after a three-hour operation was carried out on Friday.
Chowdhury was chatting near the temple near his British bazaar house on July 11 at night, when two men were transmitted motorbikes shot him from close range.
He was taken to Malda Medical College, from where he was referred to IPGMER (SSKM Hospital).
“The bullet has penetrated the seventh segment of the patient from the heart, the right kidney and a large bowl before settling between the anal and the bladder above the terminal part of the spinal cord,” General Surgical Assistant Professor Seraj Ahmed.
Three doctors from the General Surgery Department – Shamita Chatterjee (Professor), Pritin Bera (RMO) and Ahmed – do surgery to remove bullets.
“The condition of my brother is very important so we think that we might lose him.
The medical care and attention he received at SSKM Hospital has renewed our belief at the Medical Institute,” his sister said Gopal.
