Nairobi: Unknown armed attacker killed 18 people when they attacked a convoy of two vehicles in Central Burundi during the weekend, said government officials and eyewitnesses on Monday.
The attackers, who attacked around 8pm local time on Saturday, shot two cars before pouring gasoline and took him down, a government official in the area that did not want to be identified to Reuters.
He said the vehicle, which traveled on Jalan Bujumbura-Gitega, was blocked by stone, before the “Fusillade bullet” was fired into it.
The attackers then burned the car, left several victims burning outside the recognition, the official said.
The attack took place in Muramvya Province, about 65 kilometers (40 miles) from the capital Bujumbura.
Another attack on May 9 in Muramvya claimed eight lives.
There is no direct claim of responsibility for Saturday, which is described by the Ministry of Security as a “terrorist attack”.
About 12 suspects had been arrested in connection with the attack, the ministry said.
