Bhubaneswar: More than three years after the State Assembly provided a resolution to own the Legislative Council (Vidhan Parishad) in Odisha, the Law Minister of Union Kiren Rijju on Thursday said that no resolution was received by the center.
In a written reply to Rajya Sabha to the question from BJD’s Prasnana Acharya, the Union Minister said information was being sought from the state government about such resolution adoption for the formation of houses in the state.
2019 General Elections and Assembly in the State, Assembly on September 6, 2018 passed such resolution.

Before the start of almost every parliamentary session, the BJD has demanded the introduction of the bill to have a legislative council in the state.
BJD leaders believe there is a need to have a house above in the state for a broader consultation about various problems related to the country.
Also, the bill passing in the State Assembly can be taken for complicated discussions in the upper house.
The legislative council proposed in Odisha will have 49 members (a third of the size of the assembly), while it will lead to additional finance.
Rs load 35 Crore every year to the salary fee and formation of members.
The state government plans to operate the legislative council of the old assembly building, while the existing assembly secretariat will meet administrative needs.
The Law Minister of Uni, in the answer, said six countries had a legislative council, including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
This center has also received resolutions from three states – Assam, Rajasthan and West Bengal – for the creation of the legislative council.
