Cabinet gives nod to India-Japan MoC on Metropolitan Growth

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a memorandum of cooperation with Japan in the area of sustainable urban growth that is expected to generate employment opportunities.
According to an official announcement, the memorandum of collaboration (MoC) will soon be conducted between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Japan at supersession of an Present MoU of 2007 on urban growth.
The MoC is expected to generate employment opportunities in the regions of sustainable urban growth, such as urban planning, clever cities growth, affordable housing, urban flooding control, sewerage and waste water management, urban transportation — such as smart transportation management strategy — transit-oriented advancement and multimodal integration and disaster resilient improvement.
The projected memorandum of collaboration will enable trade of important learnings and best practices, ” the announcement said.
A Joint Working Group (JWG) will be comprised to strategise and implement programs on collaboration under the frame of this MoC.
The JWG will match once per calendar year, alternately in Japan and in India.
The alliance under this MoC will start on the day it’s signed and last for a period of five decades.
The arrangement will encourage powerful, profound and long term bilateral cooperation within the area of sustainable urban growth between the 2 countries, ” the announcement said.
The Union Cabinet was also indicative with a memorandum of understanding signed between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Maldives on collaboration in the field of sustainable urban growth.
The MoU was signed in February this year.
The aim of this MoU will be to facilitate and strengthen India-Maldives technical collaboration within the area of sustainable urban growth, such as urban planning, clever cities growth, solid waste control, affordable housing, urban green freedom and urban mass fast transport, yet another announcement said.
