Cal Univ Adds a Chair at Maulana, Scotland, 3 others

Kolkata: Calcutta University has provided five-affiliated colleges, including Maulana Azad and the Scottish Church, final sanctions to increase seats to accommodate proper candidates from a large number of applicants.
As a Bachelor application closed on Friday, the University Presidency recorded 58,000 applications for 665 seats, University of Jadavpur 55,000 for 1,066 seats in the flow of arts and science and Scottish Church of Calcutta and Surendranath each, among others.
Some institutes said they received new applications even on Fridays and most claimed the number had risen four to five ordinary numbers.
Maulana Azad College Principal Subhasis Dutta said they had received 41,000 applications.
“The number of applications this time is beyond our expectations,” he said.
A few days ago, Cu had asked college to apply for a chair increase and add 32 beds.

“We have urged a chair increase since 2019 in various subjects.
It was finally approved at the time of a large application number,” Dutta added.
The Scottish Church, who has received 58,878 applications, got CU sanctions to increase 37 seats.
Principal Madhumanjari Mandal Choubory said, “This year, the application number is very high.
But it also gives us a sense of satisfaction that a large number of students want to study in our college.
We are sure all seats will be filled,” he said.
Apart from the five universities that have received final approval, more institutes under Cu are filtered to be given a nodding of chairs.
According to the norm, 10% of seats can be added to Honors and 15% subjects for general courses at a college at a time.
“Syndicate Cu has a clear resolution about this, we cannot surpass it,” said Chancahelir Cu Sonali Chakravarti Banerjee told toi.
After the deadline for undergraduate programs was extended from August 20 to 27, the University of Jadavpur received 5,000 new applications in an extended week and a 1,000 presidency.
Registrar Ju Snehamanju Basu said, “The number of applications has risen.
The amount is very high and we have little time to prepare a list of achievements.” Like others, Bethune and Lady Brabourne have also been flooded, with Bethune lowering more than 28,000 applications for 480 seats and lady Brabourne is more than 33,000 seats.
Lady Brabourne Principal Siuli Sarkar said, “The application during the extended period is mostly from students who receive a revised Mark Sheet late.” Some Initets handed over the submission of the form on Friday night and began sorting.
But for the most part, deadlines will end on Saturday midnight.
