Calangute CCTV system will soon work: Sarpanch

CALANGUTE: CCTV surveillance system in Calangute, which has been torn down by cyclone Tauktae, will soon be functional, said Calangute Sarpanch Shawn Martins.
Calangute Panchayat, in June 2019, became the first in the state to install the CCTV surveillance system to maintain a watch above the village.
With a constant tourist flow in the village, there has been an increase in small crimes such as theft of cellphones from parked cars, bags were struck, pimps, brokers, drug vendors, among others.
The CCTV system is to help the police in detection of evil.
The system with 60 cameras has been installed at a cost of Rs 90 lakh through the scheme of ‘Swadesh Darshan’ Center.
However, the system was damaged during Tauktae Typhoon in May this year, and repairs were postponed after the rainy season.
“File (for repairs) is with BDO and the proposal is expected to be approved in a few days,” said Martins.
