CALANGUTE: Members of the Calangute Congress Block Committee on Wednesday resigned in bulk protesting the induction of the former Calangute BJP MLA and former Port of the Minister of Michael Lobo into the party in the midst of an indication that he would become a party candidate in Calangute for assembly elections.
The Calangute Congress Committee member held a meeting on Wednesday morning after lobo induction on Tuesday night, and slammed party leadership because it would return to their promise to involve a candidate proposed by a candidate.
Other meetings will be held on Thursday night to decide their next action.
Three prospective candidates, former MLA Agnelo Fernandes and former Sarpanch Calangute Joseph Sequeira and Anthony Menezes along with the Block of President Benedict D’Souza accused that the party’s main officials responsible for Goa had misled them and betrayed their beliefs.
D’Souza said that they had said to start campaigning a few months ago, with a guarantee that one of the three candidate candidates will be given a ticket.
“Our campaign slogan is ‘Lobo Hato, Calangute Bachao’.
Now they have triggered him to the party without consulting with us,” he said.
“This is dirty politics.
If they think they can bring others and we will work for his victory, they are wrong,” Menezes said.
Sequeira said that lobo induction came as a big surprise.
“After all the work we have done, without telling us that they have triggered him.
They are liar No.
1.
We are very hurt, but we do not weaken.
We will continue and teach them lessons.
This is the end of the Congress in Goa,” he said.
“We met on Thursday night to decide on our candidates or which parties or as independent, he will compete,” Fernandes said, putting aside the contest with BJP tickets.
“Our slogan from now on is ‘Hato Congress, Goa Bachao’.” D’Souza said.
