Calicut crash shows why babies are at risk

Mumbai: The Air India Express Kozhikode Accelc has brought ahead of the long neglected problem – baby security on the board.
The Indian Express aircraft has slid towards the end of the table up the table from the place falling into a deep canyon, crashing into the airport perimeter wall and penetrated three.
During an important landing, ten babies sit in their parents’ rounds.
The only seating net, the grip of their parents’ arms.
Three of them died, the other three had serious injuries.
The accident, which occurred in August last year, has highlighted the need for ‘child safety restraying system’, the type that was advocated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and used in countries such as the US.
The child’s resilient system (CRS) is a belt tool that can be tightened by parents to the back seat, where the passenger seat belt can be withdrawn to secure the baby safely to the chair.
But for this, parents need to buy separate seats for babies.
At present, Air India Express and several other Indian operators do not allow purchasing separate seats for babies.
Said an airline official, asking for anonymity: “Some parents may not want to spend and buy separate chairs for babies, given that the accident is a rare event.
But CRS can make babies safe during turbulence too.
Those who want to buy separate seats must have The choice.
“The Directorate General of Civil Aviation General Arun Kumar said:” We have just seen the Aix Kozhikode accident report.
The right call will be taken in time.
“The plane accident investigation team (AAIB) collects feedback from the mother’s mother who has died.
Babies – although placed on a lap – were not held strongly because the crew did not announce the impact announcement.
Therefore, during the frontal impact of the accident, the baby was displaced from the lap and thrown into the cabin and, as a result, received a fatal injury, he said.
Air India Express has no provisions for the child / infant registration system and they only rely on babies held without additional restraints, he added.
US Aviation Regulator, Federal Flight Administration – In Pages ‘Flying with Children’ – said: “The safest way to secure a baby or child on the aircraft board is in the CRS approved by the country, in a special seat …
the use of CRS provides a level of salvation It is equivalent to babies and children because given to adult passengers wearing a seat belt.
“The use of the exercise of the right occupants is one of the most basic and important factors in surviving accidents, he said.
“It is impossible for parents to physically detain a baby or child, especially during sudden acceleration and / or slowdown, unexpected or severe turbulence or during the impact,” he said.
ICAO manual about the approval and use of the child’s restrawal system (DOC 10049) contains guidelines for countries to develop regulations and approval processes that allow the use of CRS.
