CALIFORNIA: A large spill of oil on the southern California coast leaves dead fish, birds that fall into petroleum and contaminated wetlands, in what is called local officials called environmental havoc.
Coastal Guard A.S., towards a cleaning response involving the federal institution, state and city, on Sunday announced an investigation around the clock into how the spill occurred.
An estimated 126,000 gallons, or 3,000 barrels, have spread to the oil layer which covers around 13 square miles of the Pacific Ocean since it was first reported on Saturday morning, Kim Carr, the Mayor of Huntington Beach, said at a press conference.
He called the “Environmental Disaster” spill and “potential ecological disaster”.
The coastal city, about 40 miles (65 km) south of Los Angeles, carrying a spill load.
Carr added: “Our wetlands are degraded and the portion of our coastline is now covered in oil.” The spill was caused by a violation that was connected with Elly’s oil rig and stretched from Huntington Beach’s pier to Newport Beach, a popular area with surfers and sunbathing.
The Department of Fish and Wildlife California ordered the closure of fisheries for coastal areas affected by spills.
The closure will be expanded from Huntington Beach to the Point Fund for the coastal area, and it will extend up to six miles from the beach points for the offshore area, the department said https: //socalspilresponse.s3.us-jtti.s3.us -2.

Carr said the oil rig was operated by Beta Offshore, a subsidiary of California from the amplify energy company based in Houston.
Calls to beta and amplify are not answered.
Carr, in his remarks, added: “In a few days and Sunday, we challenge the responsible parties to do everything possible to improve this environmental disaster.” Amplify Energy CEO Martyn Willsher said at a press conference in Long Beach that the pipeline had been turned off and remained lost oil.
He said the diver still tried to determine where and why the spill occurred.

Representatives of Michelle Steel, a republican represented part of the affected area, sent a letter to Democratic President Joe Biden asking for the main disaster declaration for Orange County, who would free federal funds to help.
Steel then told CNN: “This is a very serious disaster”.
Cottie Petrie-Norris, a member of the Democratic State Assembly representing several affected areas of the spill, said he had a “great concern” about the level of damage to the environment, the community, and the local economy.
He told CNN spill is “call to act that we need to stop drilling our valuable California coast.” Oil production off the coast of California has declined sharply since its peak in the 1990s, partly because of the strict environmental rules of the country.
Democrat Governor Gavin Newscom said he wanted to end oil drilling in the state in 2045.
Offshore drilling was limited in the state after the devastating 1969 oil pimps from Santa Barbara who waste 80,000 barrels into the sea.
Other spills of Santa Barbara in 2015 were sent as many as 2,400 barrels to the beach and to the Pacific.
Oceana, a marine conservation group, also called for the end of the offshore oil and gas drilling.
Jacqueline Savitz, Oceana’s main policy officer, said in a statement: “It’s just the latest tragedy of the oil industry.
It’s past to prevent oil spills in the future by protecting our beaches from offshore drilling.” Spills occur in federal waters.
Officials said federal institutions, states and cities were involved in a response led by US coast guards.
On Sunday, the Department of Orange County Katrina Foley said the oil had infiltrated Marsh, large ecological reserves, causing “significant damage.” The beaches are closed for swimming and local air shows canceled, although some people are not affected by setting up a chair on the beach to enjoy a sunny Sunday or take a walk along the pier.
Carr said officials had mobilized 2,050 feet (625 meters) protective boom, which helped contain and slow down the flow of oil.
Coastal Guard A.S., works with local and state institutions, flying airplanes and deploying ships to judge spills and have rented a contractor to clean it.
About 3,150 gallons of oil have recovered from water, said the coast guard.
