Sacramento: California will need civil servants and all health care workers to show evidence of Covid-19 vaccination or tested every week, tightens restrictions in an effort to slow correnavirus infection which is increasing in the most populous situation in the country, most of which are unknown.
The new rule will take effect next month, officials announce on Monday.
There are at least 238,000 state employees, according to the California Control Office, and at least 2 million health care workers in the public and private sectors.
While around 62% of all California who qualified fully vaccinated, the state has struggled to make significant progress in recent weeks.
Infection and inpatient increases, with a very contagious Delta variant now makes around 80% of cases in California, although the growing amount is far below where they are during winter peak.
“Someone’s choice for not vaccinated now has an impact on all of us in a deep and destroying and deadly way,” said Governor Gavin Newsom in announcing a new policy.
Apart from changes to state workers and increasing infection, the democratic governor has hesitated to impose new requirements regarding the blasphemy of masks or social blasphemy because he allows the state to reopen on June 15.
Appeared when newsom faced memory selection in September which was largely through handling pandemic, with California has become the first to wear orders living throughout the state last year and the shutdown of business and schools lasts longer than many other states.
Now, local governments such as Los Angeles County (the largest national county) need or urge residents back to wear masks in the room.
And cities and districts in the San Francisco Bay region previously imposed Covid-19 vaccination requirements for workers.
Officials of Santa Clara County said they planned to ask all 22,000 county employees to get vaccinations, not waiting for food and medicine to provide full approval for the Covid-19 vaccine to implement policies, which are still developed.
Officials said most employees were fully vaccinated.
New York City also announced on Monday that he would need all the municipal workers, including teachers and police officers, to get a vaccine in mid-September or face weekly testing.
In California, those without evidence of vaccination will continue to be asked to use a mask at work.
“If they are not vaccinated and we cannot verify that they have been vaccinated, we need them to be tested,” Newsom said about state workers.
“California is committed to vaccination, verification and or testing every week.
We do not stop only with civil servants.” He said vaccine verification would also be needed in prison and homeless shelter.
