‘Call Center’ Dupes of US citizens from Rs 10 Crore

Noida: Police at Greater Noida Uttar Pradesh have arrested 32 people from the fake call center which allegedly deceived US citizens under the pretext of repairing computer viruses, officials said on Thursday.
The estimated money was tricked by Americans by the call center so far worth more than Rs 10 Crore, according to an official estimate.
Based on the tip-off, the police raided the call center and arrested 32 people found to work in place.
Those who were arrested include people living in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida and Gurgaon.
The Call Center Center operates over the past year from the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the Bibrakh region, the Deputy Commissioner of the Additional Police (Central Noida) Ankurwal.
“As many as 32 people have been captured from the Call Center who deceived American citizens.
The defendant will interact with US citizens through the internet and send bugs into their computer system but scare them by saying that their system has got a virus,” he said.
“The defendant will then offer them a solution to removal of the virus and request a target to transfer money for services provided by them.
The defendant will then remove the bug made by them,” the officer said.
The defendant will look for USD 1,000 (around Rs 74,000 according to the exchange rate on Thursday) with their “service” reward, DCP Aggarwal told reporters.
“The call center gets profits to USD 4,000 every night and they have been operating for about a year now, according to the information accused during the question.
The number of fraud is good at Crores Rupee,” he said, added.
That employees who work on the call are paid by Rs 20,000 a month while managers get Rs 1.25 lakh to Rs 1.50 lakh monthly.
He said about 15 to 20 more people, including the mastermind behind the CON job, had been identified and searched for tracking and capturing them.
A pine has been put forward at the Bibrakh police station under the Indian Criminal Code 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal violations of trust) and in the provisions of the Information Technology Act, the police said.
The police have confiscated 50 computers and related devices from the call center, where people work overnight to fit normal working hours in the US, they said.
