New Delhi: Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) is likely to make decisions about permits for the celebration of the Puja Chhath in the city in a meeting to be chaired by Lieutenant Governor of Anil Baijal on October 27.
The authority has banned the celebration of the Puja Chhath in front of the public place on September 30 for the second year in a row considering the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Chairman of the Minister of Arvind Kejriwal has written a letter to Baijal on October 14 to hold DDMA meetings to allow celebrations in the capital with all Covid-19 protocols needed.
Kejriwal said that Chhath Puja must be permitted as a Covid-19 situation has been controlled in the national capital and many other countries have allowed celebrations.
In the letter, Kejriwal stated that Delhi people celebrate Chhath every year with faith and festivals are an integral part of our ancient culture.
Apart from LG and CM, Revenue Minister Delhi Kailash Gahlot, Chief Secretary of Vijay Dev and other senior government officials will attend the meeting to be held through video conferencing on Wednesday.
Previously, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also wrote a letter to the Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, looking for festival guidelines.
Bharatiya Janata Party MP Manoj Tiwari has demanded permission for the Puja Chhath in the capital since September 30.
Tiwari also started ‘Chhat Yatra’ to mobilize support to revoke the ban.
