Ottawa: Canadian Boxer Mandy Bujold, Pregnant and on Maternity Leave during the Olympic qualifying event, said on Wednesday he had won his case with the Arbitration Court for sports and will fight in the Tokyo match.
“My Olympic dream is still intact,” Bujold wrote in a Twitter post.
The 33-year-old boxer was fifth at the 2016 Rio Olympics and arranged to compete in 51kg at the Olympics.
“Very happy to announce that the decision by the Arbitrage Court for sports was released this morning,” Bujold was posted.
“I’m proud to say that my legal battle was won.” The court ruled that the decision of the International Olympic boxing boxing qualification (IOC) must include accommodation for women who were pregnant or postpartum during the qualification period.
“The IOC has decided to take into account the rank of three competitions held in 2018 and 2019 – when Bujold was unable to participate – as a qualification criterion for the Tokyo match after last year’s qualification was summoned because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Minister of Canada Sport Steven Guilbeault wrote in a letter to IOC President Thomas Bach last month that “the decision to become a mother in 2018 should not punish” Bujold or prevent him from participating in the Olympics.
“It was the biggest battle in my career but also the fight with the most meaningful,” Bujold said about the CAS verdict.
” I stood up for what I believed right and for the dream I had done so hard.
“And I am very proud that we have established a precedent of human rights for women’s athletes now and for future generations.”
