Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Saturday said it could not allow lawyers to travel by suburban trains at least until the end of July as the State Duty Unit of Maharashtra Covid-19 captured the third wave of pandemics.
The division bench from the Chair of the Datda Judge and Justice G S Kulkarni said that the court could not override the opinion of the medical expert with the command of the justice.
“At least until the end of July, it might not be possible (to allow lawyers to travel by train).
The Covid Country Task Force feels that the third wave can begin if the train is opened for all.
You (lawyers) have to wait another month,” said the court.
The bench heard the petition filed by the Maharashtra Bar Board and Goa against ruling a lawyer from a trip on the suburban train in Mumbai.
At present, only officials of state and public administration are permitted to travel in public transportation.
The bench noted that in an administrative meeting with the task force officials, the judges were told that the current Covid-19 situation would likely increase only in August.
The court posted this problem to hear further on August 3.
