Cannot bear the burden of more Afghan refugees: Pakistan

Washington: With more Afghan civilians trying to cross the border to neighboring countries to escape the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan, Pakistan has warned that it cannot bear hosting more Afghan refugees.
Overcoming a press conference in Washington DC, National Security Advisor Dr MoEed Yusuf said that the safe zone had to be established in Afghanistan for refugees, Geo news reports.
“Unfortunately, the Afghan land has been used for activities against Pakistan in the past,” he said, adding that this area was still used for subversive activities in Pakistan.
The Pakistani government said that this country accommodated more than three million Afghan refugees, half of them were not registered, for years.
When violence in Afghanistan increased, Pakistan was afraid that more Afghan civilians would escape their homes to Pakistan.
Last month, it was reported that the Pakistani government said that it had reached its limit and could not receive more Afghan refugees as a threat of violence appeared in Afghanistan.
At present, there are two main border crossings between Pakistan and Afghanistan – Chaman in Balochistan and Torkham in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – regardless of some small trade points.
Both countries share a limit of 2,640 kilometers.
Pakistan has fenced up almost 90 percent of the limits and deploying the army and the Constabulary border, a militia under the federal interior ministry, to the man.
When the Taliban increased his attack on civilians and security forces, Pakistan expected to receive 700,000 new refugees in the first year.
In June, in an interview with the New York Times, Prime Minister Imran Khan said Pakistan would not open his border with refugees if the situation deteriorated in Afghanistan.
