Cannot give 6 more months to prepare CZMP: NGT

PANAJI: National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Friday rejected the state government application that was looking for a six-month extension to complete the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP).
NGT has directed the state government to complete the CZMP on August 30, but extended until 28 February 2022.
The country proposed that the coastal coastal management authority will require 60 additional days to complete the entire physical verification exercises and truthing of land from all objections and suggestions, which Will be forwarded to the National Center for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM) for finalization and verification.
“After the CZMP concept is accepted by the state from NCSCM, the same will be sent to the Ministry of Environment for the final approval and notification, which will require 60 more days,” said the state government.
The Director of the Goa Foundation Claude Alvares said, “We have asked NGT to give GCZMA six months in the review application.

“The Mangroves committee of North and South Goa has started a site inspection in connection with objections or suggestions received by their taluka-wise, and site inspection scheduled until the end of September.
Likewise, the Department of Water Resources and the Department of Fisheries have also started their site inspection and scheduled their site visits in the coming weeks.
In southern cave, the Mangroves committee carried out four objections and suggestions in Quepem Taluka on August 26.
In North Goa, the Mangroves Committee examined 14 objections and suggestions at Bardez Taluka on August 31, and five on September 21, also at 21 Bardez.
