Greater Noida: Pod Taxis, is proposed for the past few years in Gurgaon and explores sporadically with Noida but without the results so far, has once again appeared on mass transit radar.
The authority of the Yaumuna Expressway Industry Development (Yeida), which found himself driving a series of high profile infrastructure projects, was looking at POD taxi as a financial medium of urban transportation that was financially feasible in the long run to serve the surrounding areas of the Nida International Airport.
Yeida on Tuesday examined a detailed project report on the Personal Rapid Transport (PRT) system prepared by Rail Port India and Ropeway Corporation Limited.
The overall budget of Rs 862 Crore for up and down operation is estimated to service with the average daily passenger volume which was pegged at 6,700 in 2025.
The project is expected to take off in 2025 after the airport and film, officials said.
Although initially the domestic life was considered 6.5km, the consultant appointed by the authorities had recommended an extension of the corridor to facilitate the movement of people who would visit the industrial cluster that had been planned between the airport sites and films in Sector 21 along the freeway Yamuna.
Officials said consultants have discussed the feasibility and volume of the average passenger traffic witnessed in similar projects throughout the world.
“Heathrow Airport at London Airport and Chengdu in China In addition to Suncheon in South Korea have a similar public fast transit system.
To increase accessibility in the regional catchment area, we will need additional options in addition to taxis, buses and metro,” said Arun Vir Singh CEO , Although at first this project was planned to be a pick-and-drop service only between the city of film and the airport the upcoming target, now Yeida will try to connect sectors 21, 29, 29, 32 and 33 through the Taxi Pod service.
Taxi Pod will run along the main arterial road in these sectors and parallel to the Yamuna toll road for a distance of about 4.5 km.
The city of the airport and film will be two terminals from which taxi services above and down will be run throughout the day.
Various options have been suggested by the capacity of seats 24 to 40 individuals in one shuttle.
Each service will last for a maximum of 20 minutes, officials said.
Consultants have also provided three financial models – public-private partnerships, hybrid models or funding – to set domestic workers.
The hybrid model will require an infusion of equity by private and government businesses and income will be distributed proportionally.
In the third scenario, Yeida will borrow money from the state government and return it along with interest.
The option will be discussed and completed at the next board meeting.
Officials said it would take one year to assign the project.
“We have to complete the funding model for this project,” CEO said.
