New Delhi: India on Thursday said carefully monitoring the security situation that deteriorated in Afghanistan and its implications for the safety and security of Indian citizens in the country driven by conflict.
“Our response will be calibrated accordingly,” Spokesman for the External Ministry (MEA) Arinindam Bagchi told the media briefing.
He replied to the tamera question about the situation in Afghanistan and whether India was staring at his consulate in Kandahar considering the Taliban made a breakthrough in the region.
Bagchi said the developing situation in Afghanistan which was known in the talks of the Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar had Iranian leaders in Tehran and both parties expressed concern for deteriorating security in the country.
Jaisankar, during a stopover in Tehran on Wednesday on his way to Russia, asked Iranian President Ayatollah Sayyid Ebrahim Relision and held a meeting with Javad Zarif’s foreign minister.
“Both parties exchanged views on regional and global issues about mutual interests.
They also discussed the situation that developed in Afghanistan and expressed concern for deteriorating security there,” Bagchi said.
He said both parties also discussed the joint connectivity initiative in the region, including the North-North International Transportation Corridor (INSTC) and Chabahar Port.
Minister of external affairs confirmed the interests of India in the region and supported efforts to maintain peace, security and stability, said Bagchi.
Asked about the efforts to save the Iranian nuclear agreement in 2015, he said India always maintained that the problems that have arisen must be resolved peacefully through constructive diplomacy and dialogue between all parties.
For questions about whether India is considering closing its consulate in Kandahar, the spokesman refers to a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Kabul this week.
“You will see clarification issued by our Embassy in Kabul earlier this week, that our Embassy in Kabul and the consulate in Kandahar and Mazar-e-Sharif are functional,” said the spokesman.
“We, carefully monitor the security situation that deteriorated in Afghanistan and its implications for the safety and security of Indian citizens in Afghanistan,” Bagchi said.
On Tuesday, his embassy was described as a “wrong” report on the closure of his embassy and consulates in Afghanistan considering the deteriorating security situation.
Afghanistan witnessed a series of terror attacks in the last few weeks when the US sees to complete the withdrawal of his troops from Afghanistan on September 11, ending nearly two decades of his military presence in a country-hit country in the country.
There are reports that at least two foreign missions at Mazar-e-Sharif, the capital of the North Balkh Province, have closed their operations given the increasing violence.

The Indian Embassy has asked everyone to visit, stay and work in Afghanistan to be careful about paying attention to their security and avoiding all types of travel that is not important considering the increasing incidence of violence in various parts of the country.
In an advisor, the embassy said the security situation in Afghanistan remained “dangerous” and that terror groups had conducted a series of complex attacks including targeting civilians, adding Indian citizens to face “serious threats” kidnapping.
India has become the main stakeholder in peace and stability of Afghanistan.
Already invested almost USD three billion in assistance and reconstruction activities in this country.
India has supported the national peace and reconciliation process led by Afghanistan, owned by Afghanistan and Afghanistan.
