Cases of domestic violence in Ahmedabad rose 25%

Ahmedabad: Cases of domestic violence in the city of Ahmedabad in 2021 register a 25% increase compared to the number 2020.
The city recorded 541 cases against 433 in 2020.
The figure-figure 2021 was the highest recording in the city since 2015.
Data issued by Cid crime revealed that the state registered 1,945 cases of domestic violence in 2021, the highest since 2015.
The state also recorded a 28% increase in cases compared to 2020.

Ahmedabad and the cities of letters accounted for almost 49% of the total cases registered.
Of the 1,945 cases, both cities reported 954.

Officers said that in several complaints, women only named their husbands.

He said the data showed that most complainants were in the age group of 20-30 years.
Other senior officers, who were associated with state police cells, said: “These days, because the condition of the couple seems to be less tolerant of domestic friction.” Officers added: “In some cases, it has emerged that lifestyle aspirations triggered by social media have satisfied dissatisfaction and anger.” The officer said that the state police owned Helpdesk for women who attracted many calls.
Literacy has made more women aware of their rights, factors that encourage them to register complaints.
“In many cases, we have seen complaints of domestic violence filed in one year of marriage,” the officer said.
“Some marriages were disguiled in 2019 or early 2020 ended in 2021.” Quoting an example, officers said that in Vejalpur, a 19-year-old woman married in March 2020 and submitted a case against her husband in December 2021.
The reason is that the husband cannot give money to expenditure.
Falguni Patel, Coordinator of Helpline Abhayam 181, said they recorded a surge in cases of domestic violence for the past two years.
“The rises have been in urban and rural areas and cross groups,” he said.
“More complaints were received in 181 in 2020 compared to 2021.”
