Patna: The delegation of 11 members from Bihar led by Minister of Nitish Kumar on Monday called Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded the caste-based census throughout the country.
The leaders of all 10 leading political parties who have members in the Bihar Assembly, are part of the delegation.
After the meeting, Nitish said the leaders of all political parties from Bihar put their views on the caste-based census before the prime minister.
He said PM gave patients to hear the views of all members of the delegation.
“During the meeting, we all urged PM to reconsider the union government’s decision to not hold a caste-based census except SCS and STS.
PM convinced us to think about our request,” Nitish told reporters in Delhi.
“Now, we are waiting for PM’s decision at our request,” said the opposition leader in the Bihar Council, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who represents RJD in the delegation.
The long demand delayed to hold a caste-based census was revived in July this year after the United States received information at Lok Sabha that it would not mention the caste population, except those from SCS and STS.
Replying to written requests at Lok Sabha on July 20 this year, the State Union Minister for House of Nityanan and Rai (which also came from Bihar) said that the Indian government has decided as a policy problem not to mention the caste-wise population other than SCS and STS in the census.
Previously, the state government of Maharashtra and Odisha also asked the center to collect detailed caste in the coming census.
Reacting to the middle reply at Lok Sabha, Bihar CM on July 24 requested the center to reconsider his decision not to mention the castel population that will come in the ten-year census.
Nitish also said the Council of Bihar unanimously passed the resolution on February 18, 2019, and again on February 27, 2020, demanding a caste-based census.
He said the two resolutions were sent to the Union of the Interior Ministry and the Government Government was ordered to hold a wise population enumulation during the Census-2021.
Besides CM, leader RJD Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, Minister of Parliament State and Leader JD (U) Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Mine and Minister of Geology and BJP Jan Ram leader, Ajeet Sharma (Congress), Mehboob Alam (CPI-ML), Akhtarul Iman (Aimim ), Used CM JITAN RAM Manjhi (HAM-S), Mukesh Sahni (VIP), Suryakant Paswan (CPI) and Ajay Kumar (CPM) are part of the delegation of 11 members.
