Haridwar: After India went to Argentina in the Women’s Hockey semifinals at the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday, two top caste men began to surround Vandana Katariya’s house in Roshnabad Village in Haridwar.
They straightened crackers, dancing in artificial celebrations and loosened caste abuse in their families, saying that the team had lost because it had “too many Dalit players,” Vandana’s family told toi.
One defendant has been detained by the police.
“We were upset after losing.
But the team dropped fighting.
We are proud of that,” said Vandana Shekhar’s brother to Ti.
“Suddenly, right after the match, we heard a loud voice.
Crackers were exploding outside our home.
When we went outside, we saw two men from our village – we knew them and they were caste top – dancing in front of our house “When they saw the Vandana family stepping out, they released the flow of Casteist’s violations.
“They used Caste Slurs, insulted our family and said the Indian team lost because too many Dalits managed to get to the team.
They continued, saying that it was not just a hockey but every sport that had to keep dalit out,” said the complaint submitted by Shekhar.
“Then, they took some of their clothes and started dancing again …
it was a caste-based attack.” A pine has not been registered based on complaints when submitting a report.
“One person whose name has been detained,” Sho of Sidcul Police Station LS Butola told TII.
He didn’t say who was that person.
“We have received complaints and active investigations, after that a case will be submitted.”
