New Delhi: CCI’s fair trade regulator on Friday ordered an investigation against Google because of alleged abuse of its dominant position.
“Given the analysis above, in the number, the commission is the prime view of Facie that Google has violated the provisions of the part 4 of the law,” according to the command of the Indian Competition Commission (CCI).
Section 4 of the competition law, 2002, related to misuse of dominant positions.
The order comes on complaints submitted by the Association of Digital News Publishers.
The regulator has directed its investigation arm, the Director General (DG), to cause investigations to this problem and submit an investigation report within 60 days.
Associations say the majority of traffic on the news website comes from online search engines and Google is claimed to be the most dominant search engine.
It is said that more than 50 percent of the total traffic on news sites is transferred through Google and becoming the dominant player, Google, by means of algorithm, determining which websites found through searches.
In addition, Google is the main stakeholder in digital advertising space and unilaterally decides the amount to be paid to the publisher for the content made by them, as well as the provisions that must be paid in the amount.
Furthermore, said that associations must suffer the loss of advertising income and the inability to bid fair shares in the chain of the value of news dissemination, even though it worked and produced credible news.
