WASHINGTON: Covid-19 Inpatient in young children has reached their highest level in the United States, as Omicron encouraged large waves in cases, but it is not yet clear whether the variant causes a more severe young child’s disease, the Director of the Center for Disease Control and Disease Control Prevention says on Friday.

“We haven’t seen a signal that there are increased severity” in children under 5 years, which has not been eligible for vaccination, Walensky told the briefing.
He said the increase in cases in general could be one of the explanations for the inpatient surge.
He said these cases represented an increase in children who came to the hospital because of Covid-19 and those who came to the hospital for other reasons and then tested positive Covid.
Paul Offit, an expert of a child’s infectious disease at the Philadelphia Child Hospital, said that this week there were 15 children in the hospital intensive care unit, which was mostly unknown.
Offit said the cases seemed to be less severe.
“What we see more than we see with more Delta croup and bronchiolitis in children.
This is more upper respiratory infections than lower respiratory infections, so it’s not that much pneumonia.” Walensky also took questions about the decision of the agency last month to divide two days infected by people having to isolate five days, down from 10.

Walensky admitted one of the mistakes of communication.
“It’s difficult, and I am committed to continuing to improve because we learn more about science and to communicate it with all of you,” he said, noting that they would likely do more more regular independent briefings between CDC and journalists.
