Cellular export grew 250% YoY in April-June

Chennai: Apart from the impact of the second wave, mobile exports recorded a growth of 250% year-to-year (Y-O-O-Y) in the April-June period.
Mobile export for this period reached Rs 4,600 Crore compared to 1,300 crore rs in the same period last year, in accordance with the cellular and electronic associations (ICEA), APEX agency for the mobile and electronic industry.
Sequential cellphone exports fell from Rs 8,636 Crore in January to 202 March.
The export of electronic goods multiplied in April-June crossed the crore sign of Rs 20,000.
“Despite the second wave of Covid-19, a wise policy of the Indonesian government to continue making and supported by the PLI scheme, the industry has made significant progress in manufacturing and export,” said Pankaj Mohindroo, Chair, India (ICEA) said, noting that India still has a long way as a global exporter.
Cellphone imports are also lowest of all time since 2014-15 because the quarter’s import reached Rs 600 Crore compared to Rs 3,100 Crore for the same period last year.
However, given the increasing demand for computers (desktops, tablets and laptops), imports in the category of laptops and tablets recorded more than 50% growth in the period at Rs 10,000 Crore.
In January to March, the import value of laptops and tablets reached Rs 9,597 Crore, according to ICEA data.
“Our endeavor is replicate the success of mobile creation in India to ‘Hardware’ (desktop, laptops and tablets).
We work with the government to create appropriate policy interventions to support and create ecosystems to build large-scale manufacturing of these products at these products India and serve at least 25% of global requirements, “said Mohindroo.
Sasikumar Gendham, India MD for Salccp electronic makers said his request was strong and the production returned to normal.
Lack of materials such as ICS (integrated circuits) in China and the availability and cost of container for export are some factors that still inhibit exports, he added.
