Center expects chip makers to start local production in 2-3 years

New Delhi: India expects at least a dozen semiconductor producers to begin preparing local factories in the next 2-3 years after the South Asian countries offer incentives for this sector, said the country’s technology and technology ministers.
The government is trying to develop a full ecosystem for the chip manufacturing industry and will start taking applications under its incentive scheme from January 1, Ashwini Vaishnaw, who also holds the train and telecommunications portfolio, said in an interview with Haslinda Amin and Rishaad Bloomberg Salamat.
“The response is very good.
All big players in talks with Indian partners and many who want to come directly to set up their units here.
Almost all the big ones talk to us,” Vaishnaw said.
This country intends to be involved in several stages of chipmaking, including silicon and fab display and semiconductor packaging.
It will begin with a mature fabrication of 28nm to the 45nm section and will request a roadmap from the candidate company to move to production techniques that are more advanced from time to time, the Minister said.
Taiwan and Samsung Electronics Semiconductor Manufacturing, the leading manufacturer of the most advanced chips in the world, has shown themselves willing to develop internationally with recent announcements from new FABs in the US and Japan, assisted by the support of local government.
Last week, the Modi government approved the SOP worth 76,000 crore ($ 10 billion) scattered for six years to increase local chip production, a step that tended to help the South Asia reduced dependence on the import of material used in everything used in everything.

At present, India depends on foreign producers for almost all its semiconductor requirements.
India joins a list of developing countries from Japan to Europe and the US by setting the multibilion-dollar subsidy for domestic trade withdrawals, after global shortages of vital components involving a large number of important industries and developing economic vulnerabilities.
The government has told plans and expect compound semiconductor units and design companies and packaging to get approval in the next 3-4 months, Vaishnaw said.
“In the framework of the next 2-3 years, we see at least 10-12 semiconductors who enter production, we see the display of FAB will be produced or can complete the settlement,” Minister, who has an MBA from the Wharton School University of Pennsylvania and attend the Institute of Technology India, said.
“At least 50-60 design companies will start designing products in the next 2-3 years”.
At the proposed 5G auction, Vaishnaw said telecommunication regulators conducted a consultation with the industry and the possibility of submitting its recommendations in March next year and the spectrum price is expected to “make sense”.
The government aims to start 5G services in October-December 2022.
After offering a rescue package for previous cellular telephone operators in September, the government also sees a complete reshuffle of this sector, exploring ways to combine companies to join, develop, and operate without Some bureaucratic approval, Bloomberg News has previously reported.
