New Delhi: The Cabinet on Wednesday extended the Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana PM until March 2022.
It will be the fifth phase of the scheme announced in April 2020 to provide free food 5kg per month to almost 81 crore people borne under the Food Security Law National (NFSA).
With this, the free foodgrain program will be for two years since Covid’s pandemic hit the country.
The PMGKAY scheme for phase-V will require around additional food subsidies of Rs 53,344.5 Crore.
Total outgo in terms of meadow for the PMGKay V phase is likely to be around 163 lakh tons.
Phase-i and phase-II of this scheme operate from April to June, 2020 and July to November, 2020.
Phase-III of this scheme operates from May to June, 2021.
Phase-IV Scheme is currently operating for July-November , 2021.
So far, under PMGKAY (Phase I to IV) this center has allocated a total of around 600 lakh tons of foodgrains to the state and UTS equivalent to around RS 2.07 lakh crore in food subsidies.
Overall, the government will lead to almost RS 2.6 lakh crore in the PMGKAY I- V.
