PANAJI: The Union Minister for Road Transportation and Jalan Raya Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday said that the Center would investigate the quality of road work, and the action would be taken against the contractor.
“It (quality) is an integral part of the problem of construction anywhere in this country,” he said.
“After construction, there is a two-year accountability period.
It is the contractor’s responsibility to fix it.
That does not mean that something is wrong with quality.” Gadkari responded to questions relating to poor working quality on the national highway.
He also said that the union government did not compromise with quality.
“We will take decisive action if there are problems with the quality of work, and under the disabled accountability period, we will ask the contractor to fix it,” Gadkari said.
When asked about the hole at the new Mandovi Bridge, Gadkari said that this work was under the contracting contract accountability period, and that the contractor had to fix it.
The Union Minister also reviewed the completion of the National Mumbai-Goa Highway.
He said that under the Sagarmala project, around RS 10,000 Crore was approved for Goa.
He also said that dredging work was important, but because orders remained NGT, the work could not be started.
“After dredging is finished, there will be good work at the port,” he said.
He said that electronic clusters were announced under sagarmala.
“I have told CM that Goa can be a pharmaceutical, electronic and fishing hub, and for that I have proposed a fisheries port.
The DPR is ready,” he said.
Gadkari said that everyone must unite to save ecology and the environment.
