‘Center for sanctions ₹ 880CR for DK’

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that the Center had agreed to provide a sanction of RS 880 Crore to carry out various development jobs under the Sagarmala Project in Dakshina Kannada.Projects related to the port, and the fisheries sector will be taken through funds approved by the Port Department and Union waterways, Kateel said.
“I asked Sarbanou Sonowal, Minister of Union, shipping, and waterways, to provide sanctions of various projects to be taken under the Sagarmala project in Dakshina Kannada.
Proposals for comprehensive development in the port, waterways, tourism and fisheries sectors have been submitted to the Ministry.
Minister Positively responded to the demands, and funds will be approved for the proposal, “he said.
One proposal is the construction of docks and cargo and cruise terminals, exclusively to connect Mangaluru with Lakshadweep, to be developed with an estimated cost of RS 350 Crore.
“The stretch of roads in the old Mangaluru Port will be developed on the estimated cost of Rs 98 Crore under the project.
The total RS 30 Crore has been designated for various development jobs on the stretch of the Gurupur River.
Multipurpose Port has been proposed under the project, and the same will be developed on estimates The cost of Rs 100 Crore.
Meanwhile, Hospital 10 Crore each will be provided for infrastructure development on Bengre Beach, and floating piers, “he said.
A waterways development project has been proposed on the banks of the Nethravati and Gurupur rivers, he said, adding that RS 280 Crore will be spent to implement a proposal.
