New Delhi: The center on Tuesday told Rajya Sabha that there were more than 4.25 lakh isolation beds supported by oxygen in the country on July 23 to manage the Covid-19 situation.
Responding to questions, the Minister of State for Bharati Pravin Pawar said in a written reply that as many as 57,518 ventilator beds were available in this country according to the data submitted by the state.
Pawar further informs the top house that on April 21, 2021, 62.458 isolation beds supported by oxygen available throughout the country.
On March 30, 2020, a total of 14,440 ventilator beds were available, added the minister.
The numbers raised significance when India witnessed a shortage of oxygen beds and crippling the crippling during the second wave of destructive viruses.
In April and May, there were reports that hospitals in several countries such as Maharashtra, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh were forced to turn out covid patients because of the unavailability of beds.
The central and countries have taken a few steps to increase the availability of beds if there is a third covid wave that is possible about the country.
Pomar, in another reply, said the central government has provided a sanction of 1,573 PSA oxygen generator plants with a capacity of 1771.76 MT to be established in public health facilities throughout the country.
