Mumbai: Amid speculation that the center will propose to bring gasoline and diesel under the GST regime at the council meeting on Friday, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said, “This center is free to collect the country’s own tax, but befell the state’s rights to raise Revenues through taxes will not be tolerated.
“He said the problem including gasoline and undergst diesel being discussed in a silent tone and the state would make that position when this problem was officially appointed.
However, he said, “The GST tax system must continue as it is.
There are several sources of income generation for states, including stamp duty, PPN and GST.
On behalf of one country, one tax, the rights of the state to increase income through taxes should not be reduced , “he said.
The source said that the state government will oppose that step because it will have significant income.
When GST was introduced, five commodities including gasoline, diesel, crude oil, natural gas and fuel turbine flights were kept away from their ambitions.
This is because the principal of this commodity produces higher income where the central and state are very dependent on it.
Pawarsaid he also opposed to hold a physical meeting of the GST council in Lucknow in the middle of a pandemic.
“We have asked for a meeting to be held through video conferencing,” he said.
He showed that the center owed the country between Rs 30,000 Crore and 32,000 Crore XRS in GST compensation contributions.
BJP’s Ashish Shelar criticized pawar comments.
“This shows the government’s double standards.
Why is it agitation of gasoline and diesel prices? It wants income through gasoline and diesel,” Shelar said.
