NEW DELHI: Going to establishing a digital ecosystem for both farmers and encourage the usage of technologies in managing farms, the agriculture ministry on Tuesday signed agreements with four private business entities such as Yoga instructor Ramdev-linked Patanjali Organic Research Institute and multinational firm Amazon Web Services (AWS) to utilize their respective services at the farm industry.
The theory behind attracting these private businesses on board would be to utilize digitization in agriculture via a long term objective of preparing a centralised farmers database and inventing a variety of services in it.
This database will eventually be connected with the property records of farmers throughout the nation and distinctive farmer IDs will be created.
“The MoUs were signed up with the four associations to get a pilot project with’Kisan Database’ because’adhaar’ in a duration of one year,” said an official.
Earlier in April, the ministry also had signed an MoU with Microsoft India to begin the pilot projects to come up with a farmer port for post-harvest distribution and management.
“The fantasy of a digital India will likely only be accomplished by taking over the agriculture industry,” said agriculture ministry Narendra Singh Tomar through the MoU signing ceremony of the ministry using all the four private businesses.
Besides Patanjali Organic Research Institute and AWS, another two firms which signed the MoUs have been ESRI India Private Ltd.
and also Agribazar India Private Ltd..
Under the arrangement, Agribazar will cooperate with the department of agriculture to its pilot project in 3 countries (Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan) to market electronic agriculture whereas Patanjali Organic Research Institute will encourage agricultural management and customer support in three different districts (Haridwar- Uttarakhand, Hamirpur- Uttar Pradesh and also Moraina- Madhya Pradesh).
In the same way, the ESIR helps in establishing and launch of”National Agriculture Geo Hub” whereas the Amazon Web Services will encourage the production of electronic services and invention ecosystem connected with electronic agriculture at the plantation value series.
So as to prepare a roadmap for electronic farming, the Centre had a year ago included a task force along with a functioning group of specialists, under the chairmanship of agriculture secretary, Sanjay Agarwal, that prepare a consultation paper on developing an electronic ecosystem to its farm industry.
