New Delhi: Chabahar Port in Iran developed by India seems to continue normal operation after the Taliban guarantee that they want diplomatic and trade bonds with India and that they will support the role of ports in facilitating regional and global trade.
After surgery was beaten at first by the return of Taliban in Afghanistan, the port now sees an increase in traffic with Russia that appears, along with India, as a major contributor from the trading transit.
Developed by India to improve regional connectivity, while passing through Pakistan, the port is seen as an economical, stable and safe route ” for access to India and to the global market by Afghanistan and Central Asian countries that are locked in land.
Although instability in Afghanistan, traffic in Chabahar increased, the official source said.
While the operation was influenced by the Taliban takeover from Kabul on August 15, the work continued on September 2 and Shahid Behesti terminal since it was said to have handled cargo from Russia, Qatar, Romania and Australia.
Cargo has included food products such as barley, wheat and corn.
The increase in traffic was followed by the guarantee at that time the head of the Taliban Sher Abbas Stanekzai political office at the end of August that the Taliban wanted to have good trade and diplomatic bond with India and its appeal to traders to use the port.
Since September this year, Russia has sent 8 shipments to Chabahar consisting of, among others, 5.3 lakh tons of wheat.
In the past 2 months, this port was also said to have facilitated exports to the UAE, Kuwait and, for the first time, to Bangladesh.
The Indian government sees it as a significant achievement.
In accordance with the latest government data, the port has handled shipping and transshipment from Russia, Brazil, Thailand, Germany, Ukraine, Qatar, Australia, Kuwait, Romania, Bangladesh, and UAE.
Most commodities are handled including wheat, corn, wheat, corn, sugar and livestock.
India had previously proposed the inclusion of the port in the international North International Transportation corridor that connected Mumbai to Moscow.
Last year, the port had facilitated transshipment from Afghan dried fruits to Tianjin Port, China and Iranian water products to Thailand.
India’s authority in the past described this delivery as an important milestone for Chabahar in facilitating trade between Central Asian countries and Afghanistan with countries in South and Southeast Asia and the Far East “by building container transportation services”.
Iran also learned to also approve “ in principle ” to allow Afghan traders to export fresh and dry fruits to India through the Dogarun-Chabahar route which was closed after the Taliban takeover.
In the first week of October 2021, the news of Tasnim Iran has reported Tehran Thate has agreed to evaluate the Taliban proposal for the transportation of Afghan trade cargo and export fresh and dry fruits to India through the Chabahar route.
It reported Iran and Taliban had agreed to maintain operations all the time at the Qala-Dogarun Islamic border intersection and took practical steps to improve and develop land routes at the border intersection.
