Bhubaneswar: Star Sprinter Dutee Chand has sealed the Tokyo Olympics place in 100 and 200 meters based on his world’s ranking even though he missed direct qualification even though it had set a recent new national record.
Official sources say a total of 22 spots are ready to be contested in 100m and 15 at 200m through the world ranking route.
The current rating of Dutee is 44 in 100m and 51 at 200 m.
Both of them are in a ranking quota, making it qualify for Tokyo.
“Even though I have not received a formal invitation from the World Athletics Agency, I am sure about my qualifications based on my world ranking today.
It is every athlete dreaming to compete in the Olympics.
I was very fortunate to compete in two consecutive Olympics,” Dutee told Toi through Phone from Patiala.
In 2016, Dutee had hit history into the first Indian female athlete to qualify for 100m in Rio Olympics after a gap of 36 years.
“I can’t perform well in Rio, but I have gotten a lot of experience that helps me to peek at my preparations for Tokyo.
Even though I can’t participate in big international events because of travel restrictions because Covid, I continue to practice at the Kalinga Stadium that targets the Tokyo Olympics , “Dutee said.
The 25-year-old athlete recently set a new national record in 100m by recording 11.17 seconds at the Indian Grand Prix in Patiala but pass the Olympic qualification time of 0.02 seconds.
He missed the immediate qualification after he finished fourth in 100 million women at the 60th National Athletics Inter-State Championship.
