Mohali: Chandigarh International Airport is ready to get a taxiway for aircraft to be made operational at the end of September, according to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ajay Bhardwaj.
He said the airport would also get a block paver apron, the first of its kind in the country because the other aprons were concrete or coal tar.
Taxiway is a road for airplanes at the airport connecting runways with aprons, hangars, terminals, and other facilities.
They mostly have a hard surface such as asphalt or concrete, even though smaller public airports sometimes use gravel or grass.
“We have made a concrete taxiway with lights installed in the middle,” Bhardwaj said.
He said Taxiway, parallel to the actual runway, it was complete and would be tested in a few days.
It has a length of 900 meters, providing enough space for 10 to 10 aircraft to march before joining the runway to take off.
“It will save tax and travel time and allow more aircraft accommodations,” Bhardwaj said.
Now, an airplane after landing can leave the runway and a taxi on a parallel road makes another plane into the lineup and take off or land.
Bhardwah said for night operation, taxis on many airports were equipped with lights, although some small airports were not equipped with them, but here, Taxiway would have lights in the middle.
The Taxiway Centerline Lightthey burns firmly and emits green light located along the taxi lane.
Where the taxi crosses the foundation, or where the center line is a “leadoff” taxi leads from the runway to join the taxiway, this lamp will change yellow and green.
These lights can be closer to the taxi intersection.
In the straight segment, the taxi centerline lamp is placed at a 50 or 100 feet interval depending on the minimum official visibility.
In the curved taxiway segment, the taxi-melee lights may have to be closer together.
