Chandigarh gets 2 air quality monitoring stations again

Chandigarh: The city has two more sustainable ambient air quality monitoring stations (CAAQMS) to provide real time data, taking their numbers into three — the first installed in the 25 sector in 2018.
While one of them was established at a government school in Sector 22, the other at the Nursery Department of Forestry in Sector 53.
Both costs Rs 2.1 Crore.
“Second Caaqms will be assigned in the coming days.
Two more machines left to be established because the city must have five monitoring stations under the national central government clean air program,” said Debendra Dalai, Director, UT.
“These machines are being installed based on research conducted by the Central Polution Control Agency.
They will help us produce real-time data needed to prepare long-term policies to reduce pollution in the city,” he added.
This will help in assessing the level of pollution in relation to the standard air quality standards.
Data will help determine how bad areas or localities are polluted and to map specific plans to solve problems and ensure cleaner air, officials said.
When the central government has provided funds for projects based on national clean air programs, administration conducts a tender process to get this high-quality machine.
The Chandigarh pollution control committee has received Rs 10 Crore for air quality and environmental problems.
The number of Rs 6 to 7 Crore has been given to the MC, which is spent on two mechanical sweeping machines, sprinklers and others.
“Controlling pollution and taking regular steps in this case is one of the main areas of concern about the National Green Court.
This regularly monitors the administrative works carried out in the city,” said the source.
