Chandigarh: Positivity rate dips to 3% in week

CHANDIGARH: The positivity rate of Covid-19 has decreased from 5 per cent to 3 per cent in the last one week.
The highest positivity rate was on May 27 when it was 27.8 per cent.
This dropped down to 19.3 per cent on May14 and gradually to14.1 per cent on May19.
Thereafter, on the fifth day, the rate further dropped to 7.9 per cent.
On June 1, the positivity rate was 4.8 per cent.
The daily rate has been reducing due to less number of infections in the last two weeks.
Also, since the end of May, the testing, which was more than 4,000 a day, had reduced by 50%.
Since June 1, around 2,500 tests are being conducted on an average daily.
The recovery rate has also enhanced to 97.4 percent.
For every 100 confirmed cases, one is currently infected.
The active cases are now 74.
In the last one week, the number of new infections has reduced by 0.2 per cent on an average every day.
This was more than 2 per cent during the second wave.
The second wave’s peak was on May 9 when daily cases were 895, which was the single largest surge of this year.
However, it took a week for the surge to descend by 31 per cent on May 17.
Also, the number of deaths has reduced since the beginning of this month.
“Prior to this, there were over 10 deaths daily.
The month of May has also seen 14 deaths in a day.
This has reduced to not more than four deaths since the start of June.
If this continues, it is expected that by the end of this month, the cases will be negligible,” said a public health expert.
Comparing this trend with the first wave, the public health expert said, “Since October last year until March this year, the positivity rate had declined.
Thus, for another six months, one can see a respite.”
