Guwahati: Chandrapur residents in the suburbs, who have performed protests since June 26 against Shifting The Dumping Sites to Chandrapur from West Boragaon, may expect positive results as an alternative administration to dispose of garbage.
KUMUrUrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Bisajit Puru on Thursday said, “We have started looking for locations in several places in the city for a disposal site.
We have to shift the Dumping site from West Boragaon, adjacent to Deustor Beel (a freshwater lake), in the West Guwahati’s power followed the commands of the National Green Court to do so.

National Green Tribunal (NGT) In 2019 ordered Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) to shift Boragaon’s disposal site to a different location because it pose a threat to fragile ecology from DeStor Beel, a permanent freshwater lake.
Then, the Commissioner GMC Debeswar Malakar decided to install a solid waste management project integrated in four different locations inside and around the city instead of shifting dumping land.
The state government has allocated Rs 10 Crore for the project.
After shifting the Dumping site to Chandrapur, several pils had been submitted before the Gahati High Court opposed the move.
On Wednesday, the High Court, hearing a group of pils about this issue, directed the state government to submit a written statement on August 31.
The city does not have a waste management plant.
The state government on Wednesday told the court that the tender for the installation of waste management factories floated and would be built and assigned within one year.
